In our modern world, it's difficult to function without a vehicle. Most people can't imagine their life without one. There is, however, a sometimes difficult process to get into the driver's seat.
If you’re planning to get your driver’s license soon, you’re probably wondering about the documents required for the G1 written test in Ontario. The list isn’t long, but you’ll need to have everything organized.
When you apply for a driver's license you will need to provide proof of your legal name and date of birth, as well as any name changes you may have had.
Only original documents can be submitted when applying for the G1 Test. Your application will be rejected for using expired documents or photocopies.
If you do not have a driving center in your local area, you will need to transfer your paperwork to your closest driving center or travel point.
Documents submitted for the G1 Test must contain your first name, last name, and date of birth. They function as a permit that allows students to pass the exam in question.
The following identification documents are accepted:
To obtain a driver's license within Canada, you'll need to prove you are a Canadian citizen. You will need to submit at least one document from the above list to become eligible for the test.
Bear in mind that individuals suffering from certain conditions are not able to obtain a driver's license for safety reasons. If you have a medical condition that could prevent you from safely operating a motor vehicle, you will not be permitted to complete the G1 Test.
Once you have obtained your driver's license, you are still legally obligated to keep authorities up to date on your current medical condition, particularly if it may impact your ability to drive a vehicle safely.
If you are unable to provide identification documents that indicate your legal name or precise date of birth, you may be asked to submit other papers that can fill in this information. These include:
As previously noted, the G1 Test can only be taken by Ontario residents, so you'll have to prove you are one. To prove residency, you must provide on of the following documents showing a current Ontario address:
You will be unable to take the exam without proving you are a current Ontario resident and are legally entitled to reside in Canada.
In addition to documentation, applicants must provide proof of payment to take the G1 Test. All applicants are required to pay a fee of $159.75CAD. This fee covers expenses related to the knowledge test, road test, and a 5-year license fee. Payments can be made in cash or by bank transfer. Credit and debit cards are also accepted.
To pass the G1 Test, you'll need to be able to pass a vision test. If you wear corrective lenses, it's important to wear them while taking your vision test and while driving. If you are unable to pass the vision test and don't currently wear corrective lenses, you'll need to make an appointment with an optometrist to assess your vision.
Once you've collected your documents, you can fill out your application form to take your driver's test. Since your application will be rejected without proper documentation, it's important to have all your papers ready when you apply.
